Thousand Islands Continues to Clear Up Oil Spill in Affected Coastal Areas

Alhamdulillah some points have started to look clean

The Thousand Islands Environmental (LH) Sub-agency continues to clear up the coastal areas of Untung Jawa and Lancang islands, South Thousand Islands Sub-district affected by the oil spill from state energy giant Pertamina’s Offshore North West Java (ONWJ).

LH Sub-agency Head Djoko Rianto Budi Hartono said the oil spill that had been cleared from Untung Jawa Island reached 4,278 kg and 2,789.5 kg from Lancang Island.

"We have coordinated it with Pertamina for further action," he expressed, Wednesday (4/26).

He explained the areas that had been cleared of oil spills included the west side of Arsa Beach and the east side of Amiterdam RPTRA on Untung Jawa Island. As for Untung Jawa area, including the beach on the west side, in front of the mooring pond, the beach on the north side and the East Pier of Lancang Island.

"Alhamdulillah some points have started to look clean" he explained.

Separately, Communications Relations and CID PHE ONWJ Manager Hari Setyono uttered that the clearing of pitch waste from the coastal area was packed using bags and collected at TPS on each island.

"The waste will then be transported by ship to be processed by authorized parties. We also plan to send protective gears to the officers in the field," he stated.

Regarding the compensation process for affected residents, his party would discuss it further.

"Our current focus is on handling the spilled oil first," he stated.
